Pick a chapter below, then use the Previous / Next buttons at the bottom of each chapter to move through the game.
The opening chapter introduces James Sunderland as he descends from the observation deck into the foggy town of Silent Hill. This is a large explorable area packed with collectibles - 18 Memos, 2 Strange Photos, and 5 Glimpses of the Past. Take your time before entering Wood Side Apartments, as leaving this area is a point of no return.

The Wood Side Apartments are the first major interior dungeon. This area is dense with key items, puzzles, and the first unkillable Pyramid Head encounter. Collect the map, flashlight, handgun, and solve the coin puzzle before descending into the Otherworld via the red door.

Standard: 13 Right, 7 Left, 11 Right
Contains the Coin (Man) and Steel Key.
Three coins, six faces: the Man coin flips to Sword, Woman flips to Grave, Snake flips to Flower. The cabinet has five slots in a row — the first, third and fifth are marked Moon, Tree and Sun; the two between them are unmarked. Each stage below is the whole board read left to right, with — for an empty slot.
Where the coins are
| Coin | Location |
|---|---|
| Coin (Man) | Inside the safe in Apartment 206. |
| Coin (Woman) | Use the Canned Juice on the 3F garbage chute — the coin drops to the courtyard on 1F. |
| Coin (Snake) | Apartment 116: after the cutscene, climb out of the window into the courtyard with the empty pool; it is in the baby stroller. |

This chapter spans three major areas: the Blue Creek Apartments (the clock puzzle, and the first real Pyramid Head fight), South Vale (West) — the second town exploration section — and the sprawling Brookhaven Hospital, one of the largest and most collectible-dense areas in the game, which ends with the Flesh Lip.

Brookhaven Hospital

After the Flesh Lip fight a second one drags James under, and the hospital reopens in its Otherworld form — rusted walls, blood and decay. James has to escape, then cross the transformed streets of South Vale before revisiting the west side and reaching the Historical Society.
Otherworld Hospital

This chapter covers the descent through the Historical Society, the oppressive Toluca Prison with its scale puzzles, and the surreal Labyrinth below it. The Historical Society and the prison have no boss — both the Abstract Daddy and Eddie are fought down in the Labyrinth.

Puzzle 2 (Ox Door): Heaviest + Lightest on left, Medium on right.
Puzzle 3 (Boar Door): Lightest on left, all others on right.

Labyrinth bosses
The final chapter. After a boat ride across Toluca Lake, James arrives at the Lakeview Hotel - the last place he and Mary visited together. This area is enormous, with the mirror puzzle, gemstone puzzle, music box puzzle, and the climactic dual Pyramid Head fight. The chapter ends with the final boss and your chosen ending.
